What? You doubt me? Well don't.
The fam was supposed to go on vacay this whole week. That would include me. Maybe. However, I just wasn't feeling it. Something just didn't feel right about me leaving.
Just me. Every one else was all hyped up about spending a whole week just lounging around at the beach. That would be Hilton Head. I just wasn't feeling it. Don't know why. Just not there. After the whole deck debacle, you know, listening to my gut feeling yada yada. Soooo, I chose to not go.
Now believe me I feel bad. My daughter in law just received her Masters in August and we were supposed to be celebrating all things good. Something in my small little brain said, Don't go. Just don't do it. Hence the title, I needed to be here.
What with the whole 8 inches of rain and all let's just say it worked out.
Older daughter texts me at 6:45 am that her basement has taken on some water and would I be so kind as to maybe come over and let the plumber in because they are leaving for the airport in like 10 minutes and well, you know, water, it can be quite messy. Oh kay! Soooo, now I am awake! WATER...........holy shit, that can't be good me thinks.
The older one leaves the plumber's number and off they go. Whoops, wait, they may have left my granddaughter's's very expensive laptop, the one I just got her for her 12th BD, the Mac one, in the cab. Maybe. They don't seem to have it amongst their personal possessions. Don't panic or anything, $1200.00 and they are not quite sure where the damn thing may be. After all what with the basement taking on water and what not. Seriously, they can't keep track of everything. Right?
Holy shit! Now I really am awake. So, I call. I'm trying to be all calm and whatnot....the laptop? Um, where could you have left it? Well, maybe the cab, maybe home, um, not sure. OOOKKAYYYY.......screw the basement, where the hell is the laptop? Older one tells me she will call a neighbor and have them check the mudroom. Maybe they just forgot it. After all there was much confusion with the basement flooding, taxi waiting and so forth. Sheesh.....That was just Saturday morning.
Please, more stress, I need some more. I'm about 2 weeks away from admitting myself to the home. You know the one. Where they just sit in rockers all day and watch the commuter trains go by. No, I'm not kidding. Bring it on. Stressand I we lurvvv each other. Muchly!!!! I know dammit, it isn't a word. Make it one, just for me, just for now. OK?
Anywho, after the Abbott and Costello comedy hour of who's on first we finally get it all figured out. The laptop is in fact in the mudroom and the basement is in fact flooding.
It is barely 7 and off I run to the older one's house to do some water clean up.
The sump pump decided that it was time to quit so I called about 9 million a plumber after her's never called or showed up and finally after 6 hours they came out.
I should mention 6 hours and 12 inches of water later. OMFGIH........the water. People the water would not quit. It got higher and higher. I thought a one point I should just leave because maybe the house was going to blow. I didn't feel it was my time yet and certainly not that way.
YIKES, so here it is Sunday and I've just spent the last 2 days at the older one's house sucking water from couches and rugs. Now, I'm old. Did I mention that already? No, well I am. I should be enjoying my days off drinking, enjoying all the rain. Watching old movies on Lifetime. Right? Thank you, I thought so. Nooo, they are sitting on the beach as I type and I'm bailing water, not in my own home. The best part though.....is that I still do not have a deck and guess what? Yep, you got it! I have to go to work tomorrow.
Oyyyy, life.
Yes, everything does happen for a reason. I've yet to figure out what that is!
